This position is part of the Pathways Community Development Program specifically designed for members of the Gila River Indian Community. The Intern engages in all necessary on-the-job professional and/or education/training experiences as itemized with his/her customized development plan. Upon successful completion of the development plan the Intern will assume the Assistant Director position for which the internship applies. The Intern is also required to perform assigned duties and responsibilities of the Director’s position comparative to current competency levels, by personally performing the following duties, as well as demonstrating the GILA WAY

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Promotes and provides excellent guest service experiences to both internal and external guests.
· Complete all learning/development activities as assigned/identified within prescribed timelines, demonstrating ongoing progress toward Pathway Program goals.
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to the development plan and program requirements.
· Directs department staff as needed/assigned. Aligns daily decisions with enterprise level priorities and guest experience standards.
· Perform operational tasks that contribute to the department’s operations.
· Attend all required meetings, training, and business travel as scheduled.
· Assumes “Acting Director” status in the absences of the Mentor as appropriate.
· Immediately communicates to Mentor challenges, risks, emerging issues, or opportunities as they arise.
· Actively participates in organizational-wide initiatives that contribute to overall personal and professional development.
· Prepare and review ongoing management and operational analyses, ensuring efficient departmental functions, appropriate staffing an achievement of operational goals.
· Reviews and ensures full understanding and adherence to regulatory, departmental and casino policies and procedures.
· Maintains a dependable work attendance record with extremely infrequent absences and/or lateness. Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May directly and/or indirectly supervise multiple management and supervisory staff members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelor’s degree in business, management, hospitality, or related field required or equivalent level of experience.
2. Master’s degree (MBA, MPA or similar) preferred but not required.
3. Minimum of six (6) to eight (8) years of experience in the same or similar field.
4. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a management position.
5. Prior experience in hospitality, gaming, resort operations, or similarly complex, regulated industries preferred.
6. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
7. Detail oriented with strong analytical skills.
8. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities.
9. Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize deadlines.

11. Must possess excellent guest service skills, strong professional etiquette, and be a self-starter with the ability to multitask, follow-up and complete tasks in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as well as to gain the cooperation of guests and fellow team members.
13. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
14. This position must have, or an ability to acquire within one year, an in-depth knowledge and thorough understanding of Enterprise Policies and Procedures, governmental regulations, and technical rules relevant to their responsibilities.
COMPUTER/TECHNICAL SKILLS
Intermediate proficiency in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office Suite Software, email, and enterprise specific programs.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, financial reviews, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, internal and external customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with all numbers, and work with mathematical concepts such as numerical correlation and probability. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect, develop, and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables simultaneously.

The work environment is consistent with an Indian Gaming Casino in which the noise level can be loud to very loud. Employees must be able to work in a smoking environment and must agree to maintain a Drug/Free workplace as a condition of employment with the Gila River Casino. All Gaming Facility employees must be certified/licensed, which is required for purposes of continued employment. The certification process includes a full background check.

Skills/ Requirements
· Applicants must be eighteen (18) years of age and an enrolled Gila River Indian Community member who show the potential and desire to achieve leadership positions with GRGE. Internal applicants must have satisfactory attendance and work history.
· Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test and agree to maintain a Drug-Free Workplace as a condition of employment.
· Must pass a full background check to be certified/licensed prior to employment.
· Must be able to work in a smoking environment.
